Zionist Ramblings
Daniel Levy has a new article in The Guardian claiming a fresh approach to Israeli settlement expansion….wrong. While there may be a grain of truth in the fact that the IDF is a force with massive power relative to the Palestinians’, and Israel loves nothing more than to flex that muscle, it is impossible and vacuous to debate the merits of that obviousness. A prerequisite to its consideration is one of inevitability; the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is fundamentally different than just a land grab, and is, instead, easier attributed to the animosity the two ethnicities hold towards one another. There is no doubt that, given the same international (see: United States) support Israel enjoys, Palestine would indeed engage in the exact same technique. The problem is Pakistan’s victimization; anti-expansionist members of the international community regard them as docile, stone throwing people when, in all reality, they are provoking a state power with which they will never be able to compete. Another reality of the fact is that all great nations engage in some degree of imperialism. Many American liberals conveniently forget the turn of the century acquisition of the Hawaiian territory; we wanted it, we called it a naval base, and what were the Hawaiian people to do? After all, their military strength was definitely inferior to that of the new empire. Guam? Puerto Rico? Alaska? Any other Native American land within U.S. borders? Whatever. Call me a Zionist. I probably am.
